Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she’s the best—but she doesn’t know if she’s good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option…even if the task is impossible.
Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…
I have seen the Guild Hunter series in bookstores but I have ignored them because I didn’t like an excerpt I’ve read where Raphael was telling Elena she can call him master. It has taken me, more or less four years, to finally start reading them! And I was so thankful because to my huge surprise, this series turned out to be at the top of my list of favorites.
Reasons to love this series…
1. Beautifully Written
Nalini Singh’s prose mesmerize, pulls you in with words that create such vivid imagery you feel like the world she created is just right outside your window. Beautiful is the only word to describe Nalini’s writing. Once you start, you will find it hard to stop reading.
2. Awesome World Building
Nalini has taken beings of myth, legend or religion, and spun them into something different. Archangels were the all-powerful, dangerous rulers of the world. Vampires were made by angels, in a process of ‘making’ where humans were transformed into near immortals in exchanged for a hundred years of servitude. And the hunters, gifted (or cursed) humans who hunt rogue vampires and helped maintain the balance. It’s like reading a geo-political novel by Tom Clancy in an urban fantasy/paranormal romance setting.
3 . Brilliant Characterization
What I liked about this series is that it has interracial characters. Nalini has littered this unique landscape with characters that were strong, intelligent, and vividly alive. They have depth, flaws and weaknesses and as individual as real people.
4. Superb Plot
The plot is magnificent. From page one I’m hooked. The story is action-packed, intense, emotionally poignant, at times funny and passionately romantic. It has enough twists and turns to keep you captive and will make you beg for more. I am officially addicted to the whole series.
No instant love in this series which I really liked.
“The bastard kissed her. She was so mad, she bit him hard enough to draw blood. Raphael pulled back, lip already beginning to swell. “We are no longer even, Elena. You’re now in debt.”
“You can deduct it from my slow and painful death.”
And in the passionate scenes, desire was entwined with love. You can feel the caring and respect that Raphael and Elena felt for each other.
If you have not read this series, I highly recommend you to start now. It’s definitely worth it.
